An Introduction to Ticks

A new e-learning module on the management of tick bites is now available from NHS Education for Scotland (NES).
This learning resource helps support healthcare practitioners gain the evidence-based knowledge required to discuss prevention of tick bites with the public and how to recognise Lyme disease.
The module looks at:
How humans can acquire tick-borne diseases.
Identification of ticks and tick bites
Tick removal
Erythema Migrans and how to manage it.
The range of symptoms caused by Lyme disease and when to test and refer to a clinician.
Awareness of other infections/pathogens carried by ticks and when to suspect/refer.
NICE guidelines for the diagnosis and management of Lyme disease.
How tick-borne diseases can be prevented.
Entitled, Introduction to Ticks and the Diseases they Carry, this informative resource was developed by the Scottish Health Protection Network’s Tick-borne Diseases subgroup and is now live on the TURAS platform. The module takes around 45 minutes to complete.
