Matt Barclay: Chief Executive Officer
I graduated in 1999 from Strathclyde University. After my pre-registration year I worked as a community pharmacist for over ten years gaining considerable experience in various localities. I also qualified as an independent prescriber in 2008 delivering hypertension services from my community pharmacy practice for patients. While working in Forth Valley, I served for over five years as a community pharmacy practitioner champion, supporting the local pharmacy network. I also gained insight into many aspects of Health Board governance with roles on various committees including Pharmacy Practices, APC, ADTC and the local Primary Care Prescribing Group. I still enjoy occasional days in practice as a locum pharmacist.
It is a privilege for me to now be the CEO of Community Pharmacy Scotland and work with a great team and in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the organisation.
I am an advocate for and a believer in the role that community pharmacy does and could play in keeping the Scottish population healthy and in their own homes. It is this that attracts me to this role and keeps me motivated to champion the pharmacy network on every occasion.
I challenge myself and my team to make sure we are member focussed and deliver what we need to make it as easy as possible to look after the people of Scotland’s pharmaceutical care. If we are not or do not do that, I would like to hear about it.
Away from work I enjoy time with my young family, football (and a few other sports), friends and music.
