Catriona Sinclair - CPHB Highland
I would recommend joining a committee. We contribute to ensuring that community pharmacy is valued locally and nationally, ensuring that the value is as fair and consistent as is possible with twelve health boards! We must make tough decisions sometimes, and those times are looming again now, but committees can do this with the complete network at the heart of the decisions, not just individual contractors. We need a spread of contractors to be involved to influence those decisions. The greater good is vital to ensuring we progress professionally and financially as a network, so if anyone wants to be part of the “big picture” work within their health board then get involved!
Douglas Lynn - CPHB Lothian (Co-opted)
Being part of the Community Pharmacy Health Board (CPHB) committee gives me the opportunity to gain insight at the regional and national level of community pharmacy. The input and work of the CPHB contributes to implementing and maintaining strong local services which are remunerated fairly and ensure better communication between community pharmacists and our NHS colleagues (in terms of the challenges both sides face).
George Romanes - CPHB Borders
By being a member of a local CP regional committee, you can not only network with other pharmacists, but help your patients and the local community by working in partnership with the local Health Board to tailor services to that community. It might be organising needle exchange pharmacies or developing a vaccination service. Being on a committee with other contractors brings you more knowledge from the group too as discussions around the services we offer as well as potential new services are always very lively. As a contractor for many years its well worthwhile to assist fellow contractors and get ideas and knowledge. The group also negotiates with the local board, which is another dimension to consider.
