Digital Prescribing and Dispensing Pathways – Key Questions Series

Published: 20/03/25

A Pharmacy team member processing prescriptions at a computer with patients waiting.

As part of the policy team’s involvement on the Digital Prescribing and Dispensing Pathways programme we are looking for your input on some key questions to help inform how the system is built.

This question relates to the legal requirements of prescriptions. We are looking for your input on instances where you have received a barcoded prescription for dispensing that does not meet the legal requirements. One example we have already come across is where controlled drug instalment items do not always have the weekly quantities specified as required by law. Can you provide examples of this and how often it occurs?

If you could please provide your feedback at enquiries@cps.scot.
