Salbutamol Nebules Short Supply

A new Medicines Supply Alert Notice has been released for both Salbutamol 2.5mg/2.5ml and 5mg/2.5ml nebuliser liquid unit dose vials.

You can view the full MSAN here, but see below for some key points:

• Salbutamol 2.5mg/2.5ml and 5mg/2.5ml nebuliser liquid unit dose vials are in Part 7 of the Scottish Drug Tariff however, the short supply flag has been switched on to allow you to supply an unlicensed product and be paid accurately

• Although supplies of both products are still available these are very limited, and you should not wait until licensed supplies have been exhausted before placing orders and/or setting up supply pathways to acquire unlicensed stock

• If you do need to supply an unlicensed medicine, you should still follow your local Health Board’s process for obtaining authorisation as you would normally

• You should also endorse the price of any unlicensed supply on the prescription, both electronically and on paper using the SP endorsement. You can also claim the £30 handling charge by endorsing HC3000 in the same way
