Translabel

Published: 01/12/21

Many patients in Scotland do not speak English, or English is perhaps not their first language. It can be challenging to support this cohort of patients with their medication, but we have been made aware of a tool which may be of use in your practice to do just this.

Translabel is a free, web-based application which supports translation of basic medicines directions into over 40 languages, which can then be printed and affixed to medications alongside the version from your PMR (as this will contain all the legal requirements for a medicine label whereas the Translabel version will not). It is important that you read and understand the terms of use as well as the FAQs section before deciding whether to use this service, and if you have any questions you can contact the team at Translabel via their website. The team are also looking to hear from you if there are any languages that are commonly used in your area but are not currently catered for by the service - again, get in touch via their website.
