PCA(P)(2023)35 - Dispensing Pool Payments

Purpose

This circular advises of changes to the Drug Tariff with respect to remuneration arrangements for the dispensing pool month of July.

This payment adjustment is required to regulate the delivery of the remuneration Global Sum for financial settlement period 2020 – 2023.


Details

A change in the Drug Tariff in respect of the month of July 2023 will be made via a dispensing pool balancing payment.

An adjusted dispensing pool will be made for the dispensing month July 2023 (paid September) only. The payment to each eligible contractor is calculated as a proportionate share of dispensing pool activity from a fixed pool of £4.5 million This will be paid as ‘DP_Balance’ adjustment in September payment schedules.

Eligibility for the dispensing payment is that a contractor must be on the pharmaceutical list on 1 April 2023 or a new contractor who joins the pharmaceutical list after 1 April 2023 will be eligible. Where a contractor acquires an established pharmacy after the 1 April 2023, the new contractor will inherit the payment of the original contractor.

Consultation

Community Pharmacy Scotland has been consulted on the Drug Tariff amendments and the contents of this circular.

Action

NHS Boards are asked to:

  • note the contents of this circular;

  • copy this circular to all community pharmacy contractors on their pharmaceutical lists, Health and Social Care Partnerships and the Area Pharmaceutical Committee.
