PCA(P)(2021)13 - Community Pharmacy Covid-19 Test Kit Distribution Service
Published: 27/09/21
From Monday 27th September 2021, community pharmacy contractors that participate in the Pharmacy Collect offer that provides the general public with access to regular LFD asymptomatic testing will start receiving a new type of LFD test kit, the Orient Gene Rapid COVID-19 (Antigen) Self-test only. The Orient Gene LFD Self-test kit is a nasal swab only test kit with a slightly different testing process, producing quicker results.
Community pharmacy teams should continue to use any remaining stock from previous orders and continue following the processes that are in place.
Community contractors must ensure that members of the pharmacy team review the updated SOP for the Pharmacy Collect offer. From 27th September 2021, the test kits will be supplied in cartons containing 80 boxes, with each box (for an individual person) containing seven test kits.
Background
Circular PCA (P)(2021)08 set out arrangements for a pharmacy distribution service for members of the public to access lateral flow test kits. Following the successful launch of the service, this circular informs community pharmacy contractors of changes made to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and of the change in Lateral Flow Device Testing Kit which will now be supplied as part of the universal offer.
