Community Pharmacy Scotland has been made aware of confusion around some of the NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service (PFS) Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Patient Group Direction (PGD) details. We thought it would be useful to clarify these points.

NHS 24 have recently reported an increase in the number of patients contacting them, who are visiting Scotland from other parts of the UK, who have been unable to access repeat prescription only medicines (POM) in an emergency. Our colleagues at Public Health Scotland (PHS) have developed an important resource that reaffirms the right to healthcare for individuals subject to the ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ (NRPF) condition. This condition restricts access to many public funds, such as Universal Credit and Child Benefit, for people on work, family, and study visas in the United Kingdom.
